Book Publishing Personnel: Lindsey Springer, Sales & Marketing

6 Jul

Blogging will be light the next couple of weeks as I’ll be out of the office until July 16th. (Not that blogging isn’t always relatively light as I seem to be forever battling to average just one post a week. The Joe Wikerts of the world who can be as high up the food chain as they are and still blog as much as they do will never cease to amaze me.) Anyway, it’s time for the annual pilgrimage to the beach to gain some perspective on the size of the world (and the relative insignificance of any one individual) by staring at the ocean for days on end.

Before leaving, however, I did want to welcome the newest member of the TSTC Publishing team: Lindsey Springer.

Lindsey started on July 1 and will be handling sales and marketing for us. This is all part of the reorganization we’ve been undergoing the last couple of months. First, we’ve moved away from having two full-time production people in the office—an editor as well as a graphics specialist—to having a project manager (Grace Arsiaga) oversee editorial and graphics freelancers to do most of the production work. So now we’re able to use that freed-up full-time slot for a marketing/sales person.

Lindsey comes to us having taught English (and coached volleyball and softball) for the last four years after receiving her mass communications degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. She’s also got a history of newspaper work and has been doing independent marketing consulting as well. Now that we’ve developed our list of books and have a good handle on the titles/series we’re working on this next year, we’re looking forward to working with her to get our sales to the next level. I’m sure you’ll begin hearing from Lindsey on the blog after she gets settled in—did I mention how difficult it is for one person to keep this thing going on a regular basis?—as she keeps us all posted on what’s going on in her area.

Thanks for sharing the inner workings of your company. I’m just getting my little publishing company going and it is always nice to hear/learn how others are handling the enormous challenge and all the work involved in publishing books. It’s like I went to the beach to gain perspective – but there is no breeze in my dark office.

Boy, don’t I understand how hard it is to put up frequent quality blog entries. I hope I’m achieving sporadic entries of at least some interest.
