Book Publishing Operations: Spring 2007 Conventions & Conferences

23 Jan

Starting this year, part of the regular schedule of publishing activities for us will be attending higher education conventions and conferences. (If we were in private industry, I think the appropriate term would be “trade show” but given academia’s traditional reluctance to associate itself with commerce—a fine distinction that doesn’t particularly exist in any real sense any more—“conventions and conferences” it is.) Our goals are to 1) promote the current titles we’ve published and 2) acquire new book projects.

The “us” mentioned above means, in this case, me and Christopher Wilson, our editor. We’ll will be working the official TSTC Publishing booth in the exhibit hall at the following three events listed below during the next five months. I wouldn’t be surprised if we added one or two more but, given my constant concern with overhead, we’re trying to stick to those that will provide the most potential return for the investment of our time and money.

Texas Community College Teachers Association
February 22-24, 2007
Renaissance Austin Hotel
Austin, Texas

Texas Distance Learning Association
March 27-29, 2007
Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Conference Center
Galveston, Texas

National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development
May 20-23, 2007
Austin Convention Center
Austin, Texas

If you happen to be attending one or more of these upcoming events in Austin or Galveston, feel free to stop by the booth. And make sure to get your complimentary TSTC Publishing koozie complete with a Dublin, Texas, Dr Pepper in it!
