Don’t sweat it, Steve. After all, we’re all in a better state of mind to actually remember these things now than we were back in those days.

Yesss! And what's more embarrassing is I had it in my hands, the original vinyl, when it first came out in 1969.

I don't like this this forgetting stuff.

Tell me this is deja vu all over again. Didn't you tell us way back what the album cover was? Sad part is, I've clearly crossed the line and have now officially forgotten more than I currently know, because--as I said--I'm pretty sure I remember you saying what the cover was some time ago--and still I can't give the answer.

Like they say: A mind is a terrible thing.

Wish I could place the albu cover. But I've been looking at a Hot Licks cover on and off most of the night, listening to music on Pandora.com, and the style of both almost blends in my mind's eye.

Anyway ... where I've been is wrapped up in my semi-annual email campaign to every publisher in this year's Writer's Market that I can contact either via email or the web.

That and the ongoing dialog with Morris Rosenthal on his blog. I was going to email him one more time to tell him I use Word nearly every day—I'm up to Word 2004—but on textfiles only. I still can't believe—tho', as I said, I take him at his word, that there are trade publishers doing design (I assume that includes production) in Word. Then again, he also said that it was an IT guy told him that. I mean, they'd use Microsoft gear to change a baby's diapers if thy were left to it on their own.

So ... math, equations. Truly the biggest revelation I ever had typesetting math was using York's Mathable XTension with Quark 4. Once the Prefs were all set, I think the best-looking equations I ever set—on a series of engineering texts I worked on for a New England book packager and later published by McGraw-Hill—were with this Quark 4 (4.1, actually) and Mathable. But I don' believe Mathable's kept up with the newer versions of Quark. And MathType is pretty good.

One thing: the first time I did equations with Word via MathType, the client didn't allow me any time at all to work with them, and I thought they looked a lot less than terrific. After that, I found it was possible to spend as much time in MathType after importing from Word, as I spent doing them from scratch in MathType to start with. So you picks your poison.
